Last lesson before final cut is due in

Hello, this may be one of our last ever blogs for this project :-( We have done our written work, our project is almost finished, we just have to finalize some details. We have been spending the last month on final cut, just making it as good as possible. We have had professional advice from Ben Unwin, a professional music video director. We took his advice on board and hopefully that has aided us in searching for a good grade. We tried to make our project as good as it could possibly be by using a variety of shots, angles and camera movement. We are now waiting for the presentation at the picture house in Cambridge for all of the projects to be shown on the big screen.

Filming the opening

On Wednesday we finished up the last of our filming, this was for the opening to our project. It included scenes in a garage and also alot of shots with Ross's Grandad, this all helps to set the scene and also actually explain the main idea of our music video!

Ben Unwin's feedback!

Ben Unwin had a look at our video and also gave us some helpful feedback, he added that maybe we should not split as much of our footage as we have because it looked like we had a journey going on through the piece and this sort of cut it up. Also that the scenes involving tourist and the public should be used abit more. We are going to take these into consideration for the final cut.

Rough Cut FeedBack

After everyone watching our video we got some good feedback and also some more helpful feedback. A lot of people thought that we had got the genre right, or placed the scenes to the soundtrack well. Also that we had a clear use of the songs title through the whole piece. Alot of people thought that it was funny but also dragged a little bit, this is going to help us to re edit parts of the video where we feel we could use other bits of footage or re shoot certain scenes. With this we have also got to add transitions and other edits to make our piece totally finished.

Rough Cut

We spent the deadline day for the rough cut finishing off the rough cut version of our music video. We rendered all the animations that we did, so that they worked. We then altered the settings so that it could be played as a quicktime video. We then helped another group who needed all the help they could get as they are mentally challenged. We spent 30 minutes helping them film some of their video. After this we uploaded our rough cut quicktime video.

Animations

In the last couple of lessons we have been working on the animations for our peice, to do this we used Istop motion and other materials, we used little paper balls on a big peice of coloured card, using these we formed the words and phrases we wanted. we then reversed these for the rough cut of our video.

Animation

In our last lesson, we began our animation of the words of the song. We tore lots of different pieces of paper up and scrunched them up into balls. We then arranged them on a section of blue card on the floor. We then set up a camera and aimed it at the card and made sure that it took up the whole of the screen. We found this simple, yet effective. We took the tips from the istop motion sessions we did all the way back in AS Media Studies. We are using istop motion to actually animate our project. We find it an easy and yet effective way of gaining results, as it looks impressive and fairly professional. We realize that this takes a long time, but it is worth it in the long run as we already have the majority of our footage and our rough cut doesn't have to be in until tomorrow. And our final product doesn't have to be in until the 2nd of November and it's the 10th of October today, so we are pretty much on top of things.

Filming day 2

Over the last few days, we have got the second part of our filming done, more public dancing and humiliation. This time we had another helper to help us film so that we could do some filming with both banana and spiderman. The first thing we tried was going in the corn exchange, they allowed us 15 minutes on the stage and we got some good footage with different angles, high and low, close ups and distance shots. We then blazed it up in Kings college and got some good footage of dancing and some nice shots. We then had some time on our hands, we were thinking of getting some driving scenes of banana and spiderman because we couldn't get a tandem bike without alot of expense. We then came back and began to do some animation on istop motion as we're using some of the go-team's ideas. We are the best.
